Myofascial scraping (Gua Sha) is the act of scraping the skin with a metal, ceramic or stone tool to stimulate and release lactic acid build up within the muscles and fascia. Scraping encourages circulation and allows the lactic acid to be flushed into the lymphatic system to be properly eliminated from the body.

Silicone Cups can be used to lift and stretch sticky fascia, separating it from muscles that it have become adhesed. Cupping, like Gua Sha, has a detoxifying effect and when left stationary over areas of tension, can leave petechia; the circular rings we see on people post cupping treatment.

A flame is inserted into a glass cup before being applied to the receiver. The cup, now without oxygen from the flame creates a powerful vacuum effect that can be more potent that its silicone counterpart. The amount of suction depends on the skill of the practitioner, who seeks to balance a powerful grip without discomfort. These cups are used stationary and mobilized to lift fascia, separate muscle fibers and remove stubborn adhesions. Similar to silicone cups, fire cups can leave dark circular petechia marks when applied over areas of layered tension.

Stones are heated and used to warm tissues and ease sore muscles. Often, the stones are used to prepare for deeper work, cupping or scraping. This is also an excellent remedy for relieving a stressed nervous system that needs warmth to unwind.
